The combination of two great loves- Beer and Yoga- has given birth to BierYoga. A fast growing fitness and relaxation trend, here’s all that you need to know about this offbeat version of yoga.
The holy matrimony of two of the greatest discoveries of humanity- Beer and Yoga- is climbing up the ranks of fitness fast and steadily. Both are centuries-old therapies for body, mind, and soul and successfully engage its newly found audience. The delight of drinking beer and the spirituality of yoga compliment each other, and prove to be an energising experience.
It was originally created in America after Jhula, the founder of BierYoga (Beer Yoga), stumbled across it at the Burning Man festival. After Bier Yoga being introduced to a local yoga studio in Germany by this yoga instructor, Beer Yoga is now a fast spreading fitness trend across the world. To know more, watch the video below –
What is Beer Yoga?
To put it plainly, Beer Yoga is simply doing yoga while drinking beer.
Beer Yoga is extremely fun but it’s not to be taken lightly. “We take the philosophy of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of drinking beer to reach the highest level of consciousness.” writes Jhula, the founder of BierYoga.
The idea lies in the fact that both Yoga and Beer-drinking share a very similar base- to unplug from your daily routine and de-stress.
How is it done?
The interpretation of Beer Yoga changes from studio to studio. The original BierYoga practices yoga while drinking beer, while other studios who practice this newly introduced variation of yoga chose to drink before and after the class but not during.
Beer Yoga has been received as a very unpretentious and approachable form of yoga with an effective social aspect to it. In addition to being a hit with yoga enthusiasts, it has been rumoured to attract a number of men who find the beer aspect of it appealing enough to join. Enthusiasts say that while beer and yoga seem like an odd combination, both come from long-established traditions that focus on creating community and relaxing. People are naturally attracted to the friendly, laid back ambience of breweries and feel welcomed in a way that they might not feel at a standard yoga studio.
While this might seem like another passing yoga fad just like the creation of hot yoga or power yoga did years ago, we have a feeling that BierYoga is here to stay.
To say it just like Jhula did, “BierYoga is for beer lovers who like yoga, For yogis who like beer and for everybody else who is curious and over 16.”
